State may put a stop to pot lounges in Las Vegas – Eater Vegas

NEVADA — Hold the phone on pot lounges. While the City of Las Vegas announced plans to move forward with cannabis consumption lounges earlier this month, the state legislature is moving to install a statewide Cannabis Compliance Board that would oversee regulations and policies for cannabis use in Nevada. If it passes, Assembly Bill 533 prohibits local governments from issuing licenses for cannabis consumption lounges, and would require the new board to conduct a study relating to pot lounges. Gov. Steve Sisolak’s office noted that “it’s better to address the issue of consumption lounges the right way than the quick way, which is why he’s establishing the Cannabis Compliance Board to address some of the issues that have arisen as a result of rushed decisions made in the past and to establish a comprehensive, statewide regulatory structure that will make Nevada’s cannabis industry the gold standard in the nation.” The Las Vegas City Council voted to allow marijuana lounges within the city on May 1, which would permit 12 city-licensed marijuana dispensaries in Las Vegas to open lounges for the first 12 months.
