Police were investigating an “ongoing incident” when they witnessed a hand-to-hand drug deal. That led to police searching Charles MacDonald’s home in Shrewsbury.

SHREWSBURY — A Shrewsbury man had seven guns in his home, a “large amount” of marijuana and about $10,000 in cash, police said.

Three of the guns found in Charles MacDonald’s Oak Street home on Tuesday had previously been reported stolen, police said in a release.

That day, police were investigating an “ongoing incident” when they saw a hand-to-hand drug deal.

That led to police searching MacDonald’s home. There they found a large amount of marijuana, as well as digital scales and packaging equipment. They also found $10,000 in cash.

Additionally, police found seven guns, including an AK-47 assault rifle, a 12-guage shotgun, two Glock semiautomatic handguns and 9mm semiautomatic handgun. Police said several of the guns were loaded.

MacDonald does not have a permit to carry or possess firearms.

Three of the guns had previously been reported stolen — from Rhode Island, New Mexico and Nevada, respectively.

Police charged MacDonald with eight counts of possession of firearms and ammunition without an FID card; five counts each of possession of a large capacity firearm and improper storage of a large capacity firearm; three counts of receiving stolen property; two counts of improper storage of non-large capacity firearms; possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number; possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute; possession of marijuana; and domestic assault.
