What steps should the Legislature take to ensure New Mexico has a balanced budget amid falling oil prices and an economic downturn prompted by the coronavirus outbreak?
First the House and the Senate (Legislative Branch) should have a part in the decisions of closing and/or opening the economy of New Mexico. The Legislative branch should convene a committee to study the numbers and the effects the closure has had on citizens, employees and businesses …. They should study the 7 states that didn’t shut down …. This committee will also investigate the veracity of New Mexico’s virus numbers.
What more, if anything, should the Legislature do to address a court ruling that found New Mexico is failing to provide a sufficient education to all students?
I believe legislation could be presented … that doesn’t include teaching children a Socialist World View. Get back to the basics and teach children in the style each student can learn best from. For example, not every student will be a doctor or a lawyer. Many will be mechanics, plumbers, electricians and the like. These students would learn best from a Vocational Backed education.
What changes, if any, should New Mexico make to its gross receipts tax code?
The Gross Receipts tax should be abolished. The tax is damaging to our small businesses in
