Medical marijuana dispensary open for business in Middleboro –

MIDDLEBORO — Almost seven years ago, local businessman Tim Shaw had a vision of getting in on the ground level of the new medical marijuana industry that had just become legalized in Massachusetts, gathering a few associates to form a company seeking a license to operate one of the state’s first dispensaries. That license bid failed, with another company getting one of the limited dispensary licenses allotted to Plymouth County instead.

But the dream didn’t die. Shaw joined forces with another cannabis company, Marimed Inc., climbed up the corporate ladder to become the company’s chief operating officer, and on Thursday morning, wielded an oversized pair of scissors to ceremoniously cut the ribbon by the patient entrance of Panacea Wellness, the town’s first medical marijuana dispensary, and mark its official opening by the Marimed subsidiary ARL Health Care.

“It’s a very exciting day for us, for the town of Middleboro, and for our patients,” Shaw said just before snipping the ribbon. “We’ve been waiting a long time for this. This is it… We’re open for business!”

Beyond the pale green exterior of the big metal building at 29 Harding Street (Rt. 44) is what Marimed senior vice president for marketing Jo McCarran proudly described as the state’s biggest medical marijuana dispensary at 8,000 square feet of space.

Sales counters display the wide variety of medicinal products derived from the cannabis plant — everything from dried flower for smoking and edible products of all kinds to tinctures, vaping concentrates, rubbing oils and related compounds. Soft carpeting and warm wood panels on the walls help promote a friendly, comfortable shopping experience.
