In pot shot permit transfer, Planning Board stresses local contacts – Millbury-Sutton Chronicle

MILLBURY –The Planning Board on Monday stressed the need for the Nature’s Remedy marijuana shop on North Main Street to retain local contacts and not force town officials to deal with corporate communications in the $110 million sale of Nature’s Remedy of Massachusetts to the Florida-based Jushi MA Inc.

“We’ve always had a good relationship with Bob Carr (president of Nature’s Remedy),’’ Planning Board Chair Richard Gosselin told Carr and Nature’s Remedy attorney Joshua Lee Smith at an Aug. 9 hearing to transfer Nature’s Remedy’s special permit and stormwater management permit to Jushi.

But in his experience, Gosselin said corporations have one goal: to provide profits to shareholders. Given that the legalized sale of marijuana is a “sensitive subject,’’ Gosselin said, “Is the existing owner going to be involved, or are we going to have to deal with some multinational corporation if we have a problem?”
