April N. McCurdy, 41, of 11400 Powhatan Path, Lakeview, was charged with illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse into a detention facility and tampering with evidence Friday evening following a traffic stop.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office on patrol about 6:50 p.m. in the area of State Route 117 and County Road 38 observed a speed violation with her vehicle and initiated the stop.
Deputies said she appeared nervous during the stop and she provided consent to search the vehicle. K9 Thor was deployed and the dog indicated on the vehicle.
A probable cause search was conducted of the vehicle and no illegal items were found, deputies said. However, McCurdy had been seated in a patrol car during the search, and deputies said an unknown white substance was found where she had been sitting when she exited the patrol car.
As a result of her probation restrictions, her probation officer requested that McCurdy have a urine test. She was transported to the Logan County Jail for the test.
Upon arrival at the jail, she was asked by corrections staff if she had any illegal items on her person. She said she did not, but a body scanner screening at the jail indicated that she had concealed a methamphetamine pipe in a body cavity. The defendant was lodged in the jail.
