Crews respond to house fire, discover marijuana honey oil lab as cause of explosion
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. —
South Lake Tahoe Dispatch received numerous 911 calls regarding multiple explosions and a fire on Friday, January 11 at around 5:30 p.m.
Police and fire crews arrived on scene and found a home on fire at 1104 Kyburz Avenue.
The City of South Lake Tahoe says multiple smaller explosions occurred as butane gas canisters ignited, sending the flaming cans toward other residential structures, endangering firefighters as they attempted to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring structures.
Officials investigated and determined that a marijuana honey oil lab that caused an explosion that caused the fire, which was only feet away from an occupied motel.
Police say Joe Johnson of South Lake Tahoe has been arrested as a suspect and more arrests are expected as they continue to investigate. No injuries were reported.
