A Rally To Kick Off The Cory Booker Campaign For President in Newark North Jersey Record

Democratic presidential contender calls for unity in first Northern Nevada campaign stop

Political tribalism has created a crisis in the U.S. that can only be repaired through love, Democratic presidential hopeful and U.S. Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., told a pair of Northern Nevada audiences on Friday.

Booker, the former Newark mayor and first African American senator from New Jersey, hopes that message will set him apart from a crowded field of candidates looking to take down President Donald Trump in 2020.

Like many top contenders for the Democratic nomination, the 49-year-old former Rhodes Scholar has endorsed Medicare for All and the Green New Deal. He’s also backed universal preschool, legalized marijuana and sweeping criminal justice reforms.

But Booker has taken a different approach to presenting those policy proposals, one that consciously harkens back to the uplifting themes of hope and change that helped propel former President Barack Obama to the White House.
