Carson City’s RISE, one of the capital city’s cannabis dispensaries, is hosting a party for those inclined towards recreation marijuana for the “Cannabis Holiday” of 4/20.
According to Paul Morris, general manager of RISE, the story behind “4/20” was started by high school students in California who used it as a code word for when to meet after school to participate in then-illegal green activities.
“High Times” magazine picked it up in the 1980’s, and it has since spread to all pot-enthusiasts throughout the world, and April 20 has now become the unofficial pot holiday.
“Today is Cannabis Day in America,” said Morris. “Now there is a day to celebrate cannabis reform, legalization, and everything about the herb.”
He said most dispensaries around the country have deals, parties, and general festivities to celebrate their day.
“We’ve had a line around the door since five a.m.,” said Morris.
He estimates that within the first two hours, they served over 400 people.
“Our vendors have just been wonderful, and different companies from around the state have donated things to make this possible,” said Morris.
Festivities will continue until 9 p.m. tonight, including free food, special deals, and a raffle with winners announced every hour. A grand prize basket will be given away at 5 p.m.
As always, RISE dispensaries are 21 or over, or for people with valid Nevada Medical Marijuana Cards.
